Dimensions of Leadership Profile

The Dimensions of Leadership Profile is a unique assessment instrument with multiple applications.  It can be used to identify the leadership style of a person or the leadership needs of a team, department, or situation. This leadership assessment can be integrated into any management or leadership training course or delivered with the recommended half or full day seminar using the Dimensions of Leadership Facilitator's Kit.

Dimensions of Leadership Profile

The Dimensions of Leadership Profile is a 20-page assessment that helps people explore their leadership style, primary focus and response as a leader.  The instrument assesses a person across 12 dimensions (styles) of leadership which fall into four broader categories that describe the leader's primary focus of attention.

Focus on Analysis: someone who recognizes the issues, sees the possibilities, scopes out alternatives, and guides the group toward decisons about what needs to be done.  The leadership styles/dimensions assessed include:

  • Fortitude -- acting with courage and confidence
  • Perceiving -- looking beyond details to the big picture
  • Judgement  -- knowing and anticipating consequences

Focus on Accomplishment: someone intent on seeing things get done, who finds a way to overcome obstacles and keeps the group working together to meet objectives.  The leadership styles/dimensions assessed include:

  • Performance -- achieving goals and getting results
  • Boldness -- facing challenges and managing problems
  • Team Building -- accomplishing results through others 

Focus on Interaction: someone who encourages others to participate, who motivates and rewards member contributions by listening to and using their good ideas.  The leadership styles/dimensions assessed include:

  • Collaborating -- sharing leadership, rewards, responsibility
  • Inspiring -- energizing, motivating, encourgaging others
  • Serving Others -- helping others succeed; meeting needs 

Focus on Character: someone who reminds members of the mission and values, remains committed, and tries to prevent self interest or political concerns from undermining the team's effectiveness.  The leadership styles/dimensions assessed include:

  • Enthusiasm -- pursuing with passion and optimism
  • Integrity -- modeling honesty and personal responsibility 
  • Self Renewal -- continuous learning and self development

Implications for high and low emphasis scores for all 12 dimensions are included.
